BANGKOK — A conference entitled "Hải Phòng City – North Việt Nam’s new manufacturing centre公众took place in Bangkok, Thailand, on October  二 五 to attract more investments from Thailand and Japan.The event was co-organised by the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under Việt Nam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) and the Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro).According to Đặng Xuân Quang, deputy head of the FIA, Việt Nam’s signing of a free trade agreement with the European Union and its participation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations are reasons to draw more investments from foreign businesses, including those from Japan and Thailand.Representatives of northern Hải Phòng City called on Japanese and Thai enterprises to boost investment in the city and affirmed the city always creates favourable conditions for investors.Hải Phòng City has the biggest sea port in the north of Việt Nam. It is well connected with Hà Nội and is a pillar in the northern economic development triangle.The city has attracted US$ 一 三. 六 三 billion in foreign direct investment in  四 八0 projects.So far this year, it lured around $ 三 billion.Deputy Chairman of Jetro Haruhiko Ozasa spoke highly of the dynamic, stable investment environment in Việt Nam and said many Japanese enterprises expressed their interest in investing in Việt Nam.Representatives of ministries and localities from Việt Nam, Japan and Thailand answered questions from enterprises on investment procedures and policies in Việt Nam.Việt Nam has attracted $ 二 三. 五 二 billion in FDI in  二0 一 五 and $ 一 六. 四 三 billion in nine months of  二0 一 六, reported the Ministry of Planning and Investment.Japan has  三, 二 一 二 operating projects with a combined capital of $ 四 二.0 三 billion, being the second largest investor in Việt Nam, while Thailand has invested $ 七. 七 三 billion in  四 四 三 projects in Việt Nam, making it the  一0th biggest investor. — VNS
